What's on in March 2025
Hi everyone,
I hope you are well.
Welcome to the March's content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:
- Detail tutorial - Dog portrait - Acrylic Paint - Available March 1
This year, I am focusing on oil paint tutorials; however, I have received several requests for a pet portrait course and so in this month’s major tutorial, I demonstrate how I painted a pet portrait for a commission. I have also included a recording of a live Q&A session, where we discussed various aspects of commission work. During this discussion, I shared my experiences, my terms and conditions, and how I handle the business side of commissions alongside the practical painting techniques.
I also explained why I decided to move away from doing commissions and why I am now more selective about the projects I accept. Additionally, this tutorial includes a test of M Graham acrylic paint, which turned out to be just as fast-drying as regular acrylics. Although the tutorial is done with acrylics, I approach it in the same manner as I would with oils, layering and working with colours in an identical way. This tutorial is suitable for both acrylic and oil painters.

2. Micro Tutorial: Fur for Beginners - March 14th
This month's micro-tutorial marks the beginning of a series designed for beginner artists, while still being applicable to intermediate and advanced artists as well. These tutorials will focus on painting various types of textures, such as fur, feathers, skin, and scales. Each session will include short exercises where I will guide you through a step-by-step process for painting challenging features, including curly hair, short flat hair, wet fur, and dense fur like that of a koala.
Each month, I will introduce beginner-level layering techniques to help you achieve realistic effects for each element, gradually progressing to intermediate and advanced methods. These exercises will be essential for your practice, ensuring that when you encounter these textures in your own work, you will feel confident in your ability to recreate them.

3. Live Demonstration: Painting on the Easel - Thursday, March 20th at 10am (ACDT)
This month's live demonstration will provide an in-depth look at my current project, an original painting on the easel. While I have several projects underway in the studio, one main project is my focus. I have painted many lions in the past and have previously demonstrated how I create the mane using acrylic paint. However, I have not yet shown my detailed approach to painting the mane in oil paint. This will be the focus of March's live demonstration.

I look forward to seeing your creations this month and I am now opening submissions for "Save My Painting." If you need assistance with a painting that is mostly completed but you're feeling stuck, I would be happy to create a short tutorial video to help you bring your painting over the finish line. For now, I will only take on two of these episodes. If your request can be addressed in a simple email, I will respond that way instead.

If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to send me an email at carla@carlagraceart.com
Kind regards
Carla Grace.
