What's on in March 2026

Hi everyone,

I hope you are well.

Welcome to March's content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:

  1. Main tutorial - Full Snow Leopard Portrait for Beginners: Oil Paint  -  Available March 1 (today)

In this 2-hour-30-minute beginner-level oil painting tutorial, I will show you how to paint a realistic snow leopard portrait, focusing on creating soft, fluffy white fur that stays clean and luminous without turning muddy. We’ll follow a simple three-stage process by blocking in the full portrait, letting it dry, then adding detail and finishing touches.

Along the way, I’ll build a soft-focus background, balance warm and cool white tones, and bring the eyes, nose, and fur texture to life for a realistic final result.

This tutorial is ideal for beginners who want a clear, structured approach to completing a realistic wildlife portrait in oils from start to finish.

2. Fundamental Tutorial - Bold Clouds - Oil Paint -  Friday, March 13

This month we revisit bold sunset clouds, this time in oils. Where the acrylic lesson focused on speed and layering, this tutorial slows the process down into a beginner-friendly alla prima approach, working light to dark to sculpt soft, glowing cumulonimbus forms.

In this tutorial, I really focus on colour temperature and edge control, layering warm golden light against cooler violet and blue shadows to create depth and that soft, glowing, lit-from-within feel. You’ll see how oils give you more time to move the paint around, soften transitions, and gently adjust warmth without losing the shape and structure of your clouds.

3. Live Demo: Rules of Composition - How to Create a Balanced Image: Thursday, March 19,  10 am (ACDT)

In this live demonstration I will share my favourite composition rules that guide the decisions I make when piecing together the images in my work. I will share ideas around what it means to create a balanced painting, focal points, leading lines and how detail or the lack of detail can be used to create a compelling composition. You’ll come away with a clear understanding of what composition really means and how to avoid common mistakes in your work.

If you are not able to make it to the session, you are welcome to send your questions to me by email ahead of time: carla@carlagraceart.com

I look forward to seeing your creations this month. Thank you so much for being here.

If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to send me an email at carla@carlagraceart.com

Kind regards
