Happy New Year every one, and welcome to January's content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:
- Main tutorial - Full Horse Portrait for Beginners: Oil Paint - Available January 1 (today)
In this beginner-level tutorial, Iāll guide you through painting a realistic horse portrait in oil paint, using my alla prima layering process, with an additional drying time.
I chose a standard brown horse with a black mane, whose hair was mid length to demonstrate the process I use to create th texture of the flat strands, as well as the smooth skin of the face, the change in tones for the black mane and a simple textured fabric strap.
This tutorial is ideal for beginners looking to strengthen their oil painting technique and gain the confidence to complete a detailed horse portrait in a simple and straightforward layering process.
2. Fundamental Tutorial - Perspective Grasses - Oil Paint - January 9
To continue on with the theme I have begun with the live demonstrations, where we are now focusing on elements of nature, I'm going to share with you another angle for grasses in oil paint. I am going to demonstrate how to paint grass that is viewed from above, as you would see in a field that dissapears into the distance.
3. Live Demo: Soft Focus in Oils - Thursday, January 15, 10 am (ACDT)
This month's live class will focus on creating soft focs background effects using oil paint. One of the most frequently asked questions I get from artists is "how do I create soft focus backgrounds?" With oil paint this is really easy, and I look forward to showing you how.
