What's on in January 2025
Hi everyone,
I hope you are well.
Welcome to the January content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:
- Hyper detail tutorial - Paws - Available Now
This two-hour, 40-minute tutorial, I will walk you through the process of painting a big catās paw, a technique that can be adapted for other animals like bears and wolves. I will focus on the intricate details of the paw, such as the fur that branches out between the knuckles, the soft and leathery texture of the pads, and the subtle tonal variations required to achieve realism. I will show you my techniques for outlining, blocking in colours, building layers with warm and cool shadows, and adding the finishing details on the pads to create a realistic, textured finish.
2. Micro Tutorial: Colour Theory Value, Hue, Chroma and Temperature - January 17
This month's micro-tutorial will be part of the new beginner series, focusing on the foundational skills of colour theory. It will consolidate previous live demos and tutorials and include in-depth clarification and exercises on these four characteristics of colour: Value, Hue, Chroma and Temperature. Colour theory can be completely overwhelming and confusing. I feel like it has become 'institutionalised' over the years so only artists who have a degree in fine art can understand it. Well, I'm here to share what I've studied and present it in a way that anyone can understand and turn into useful knowledge. These won't be wordy, unpractical and forgetful tutorials. Instead, I will give you the clarity of understanding that will lay a solid foundation for all the colour theory to come.

3. Live Demonstration: Painting Challenge - Thursday, January 24 11am ACDT
This month's live demonstration is a little different. I have been invited to do a live demonstration with OPUS on January 23rd 4:30 pm PST (this converts to January 24th 11am Australian Central Daylight Time). I will be demonstrating another 7-layer painting challenge for pink flamingo feathers. I practised this demonstration, and the resulting feathers are below. I am excited about this demo, and I know that it will be amazing.

PLEASE SIGN UP for the free live demonstration here:
I will be recording the demonstration as per usual and will upload it to the Live Demonstration library as per usual. There is a list of materials for the colours I am going to use in case you want to paint them during the demonstration.
Again, this month's live demonstration will not be hosted through Kajabi, but through OPUS instead. You must sign up for the OPUS class to get the notification and link to join the Zoom class on the day.
If you are unable to reserve a spot in the class because it is fully booked, please let me know.

If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to send me an email at carla@carlagraceart.com
Kind regards
Carla Grace.
