Welcome to August's content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:
1. Major tutorial - Tiger Portrait Beginner Course - Oil Paint - Available August 1 (today)
In this 3-hour tutorial, Iāll guide you through my complete three-phase alla prima oil painting process to create a vibrant and lifelike tiger portrait, building on all the foundational techniques from my beginner series. Iāll show you how to bring the tiger to life with expressive brushwork, realistic fur textures, striking lighting, and balanced colour. Weāll cover how to prepare your surface with a grid and toned background, block in shadows and highlights, and gradually build soft, layered details without using any painting mediums. This tutorial is perfect for beginner artists wanting to grow their skills in oils and confidently create a detailed, naturalistic animal portrait from start to finish.
2. Micro Tutorial: Owl feathers for Beginners in Oils - Alla Prima Exercise- Available Friday, August 15
This month's micro tutorial demonstrates a beginner-level approach to my process with oil paint to create the texture of owl feathers. I will show you my 3-phase alla prima technique, breaking down the complex layers of the feathers into a simplified and straightforward process.
3. Live Demonstration: Core Class - Thursday August 21 at 10am (ACST)
This month's live demonstration takes last month's demonstration on the basics of light manipulation one step further. In this demonstration, we will begin playing with the creation of light and shadow on forms, starting with one light source and progressively making it more and more complex. We will cast shadows over multiple shapes and surfaces by the end of the exercise, and will include multiple light sources. By the end of the demonstration, you will be left with an exercise to do at home that will solidify your ability to add light and shadow to any shape successfully.
