What's on in April 2026
Hi everyone,
I hope you are well.
Welcome to April's content schedule! Here's a sneak peek of what you can look forward to this month:
- Main tutorial - Full Flamingo Portrait for Beginners: Acrylic Paint - Available April 1 (today)
In this tutorial, I will show you how I paint a realistic flamingo portrait using my seven-layer acrylic approach. Iāll guide you through my colour selection and how I use oranges, pinks, and an unexpected base tone to create vibrancy and depth. Iāll demonstrate how I build soft feather transitions, particularly in the white feathers, and how I use contrast, light, and shadow to create realism without relying on excessive detail. Iāll also show you how subtle background colour and controlled layering help unify the portrait and bring the subject to life.
2. Fundamental Tutorial - Realistic Snow - Acrylic Paint - Friday, April 17
This month I am going to share a foundational acrylic painting exercise, where Iāll show you how to paint realistic snow using a layered dark-to-light process. I will be creating simple compact flat snow broken up by the trail of an animal, resulting in clups of brilliant snow.
We will focus on working warm bright light with the cool blue tones of the snow in a simple, easy to follow process.

3. Live Demo: How to Paint a Great White Shark - Join me while I paint a shark: Thursday, April 24, 10 am (ACDT)
Join me in painting the image below of a Great White Shark. This is a commissioned painting that I will be working on throughout April, and I would love to share everything I am learning about painting the amazing textures and colours of the sharks flesh. Take a step behind the scenes with me and get all the information on my process for this commissioned painting.

If you are not able to make it to the session, you are welcome to send your questions to me by email ahead of time: carla@carlagraceart.com
I look forward to seeing your creations this month. Thank you so much for being here.

If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to email me.
Kind regards
Carla Grace
